Over 91% of people in plumbing and HVAC careers identify as male. However, as a leading HVAC and plumbing business in Charleston, LimRic aims to break gender bias barriers and empower new career opportunities for women in the skilled trades.

The heating and air conditioning industries still have a long way to go for gender equality among HVAC technicians, but change is possible. Find out how LimRic strives to inspire more HVAC and plumbing jobs for women.

Inspiring Career Opportunities for Women

In alignment with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on March 8, LimRic launched a “Transforming the Trades” video to further instill the company’s concerted effort to recruit women interested in the trade industry.

According to the Department of Labor, women only make up around 5% of jobs in the plumbing industry. Fortunately, many steps are being taken to inspire women in trades. For instance, WHVACR (Women in HVACR) offers scholarships to women in high schools that are interested in attending trade schools. While this is still a traditionally male-dominated industry, LimRic wants to help further open the doors for women in HVAC and plumbing.

Breaking Down Barriers

There are many misconceptions about women in HVAC and plumbing that LimRic wants to help deconstruct. “Many women may feel that working in the trades is unconventional or not an option at all, however, women are just as capable and successful as men in these fields,” said Cassi Hedges, Chief of Staff at LimRic.

“At LimRic, we want to break down the barriers of entry and gender bias and open the doors for women in the Charleston community and beyond to learn about the countless opportunities and benefits of working in trade industries.”

LimRic is always looking to hire women in the skilled trades. “At LimRic, we’re proud to employ female plumbers, comfort specialists, customer service representatives; and even 46% of our management team are women,” added Cassie. There are countless possibilities for women in the skilled trades. “Service trade careers provide financial stability, continuous education, and knowledge and experience that can be applied in other industries.”

Accommodations for Team Members

LimRic continually makes an effort to ensure that women and all team members are accommodated. For instance, LimRic is amplifying the awareness of its career opportunities for women in HVAC and plumbing with mission-focused diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.

Another way LimRic aims to inspire women in the skilled trades is by offering continued education. LimRic team members are provided with steady training in their specialties throughout the course of their career with the company to ensure that there is never a glass ceiling.
