Congratulations To September’s LimRic Give Back Grant Winners 

We’re so proud to support the Charleston community through our Give Back Grant program. The September recipients of the Give Back Grant are Be A Mentor and the Summerville Sertoma Club!

 

Be A Mentor has an enlightening mission to “enable youth to develop positive relationships with caring adults who empower them to reach their full potential through mentorship.” The core values of Be A Mentor consist of compassion, growth, diversity and integrity. The organization holds programs such as Goals & Growth Mentoring, Career Path Mentoring and a Lunch Buddies program. We are thrilled to stand by such an amazing organization!

The Summerville Sertoma Club, founded in 1972, sponsors and organizes youth football and cheer programs. Additionally, the organization helps children with hearing disabilities and raises funds to send children to Camp Sertoma, a challenging and meaningful athletic camp experience to strengthen participants’ ability to work together, lead and persevere. The Summerville Sertoma Club has also partnered with Hearing Care of Summerville to organize a hearing aid bank and to provide hearing aids to an 18-year-old student.

 

Our Give Back Grant program, initiated in 2016, demonstrates “LimRic Pride” by donating a financial contribution to two 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations every month. In 2018, we expanded on the program by adding a volunteer element in addition to monthly donations.

We Partnered with 103.5 WEZL to Announce Our August Give Back Grant Recipients

We have partnered with 103.5 WEZL to announce The Salvation Army of Charleston and Going Places as the August recipients of our Give Back Grant. The Give Back Grant program, initiated in 2016, demonstrates “LimRic Pride” by donating a financial contribution to two 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations each month.  

 

Through the partnership, each grant recipient will also be featured on 103.5 WEZL, part of the station’s “103 Day Kindness Crews-Aide.” Playing off the word ‘crusade,’ the campaign seeks out individuals who are in need of a little kindness – perhaps help on an overdue bill or a special way to say ‘thank you’ to someone. Hosted by radio personality Ric Rush, and with the help of local businesses and donors, the campaign identifies those individuals and then delivers random acts of kindness to them. This month, Rush joined David Miles, LimRic’s owner, in recognizing August’s deserving charities and awarding them with the Give Back Grant.  

 

The Salvation Army of Charleston, a non-profit that has been active in the Carolina’s since 1887, operates hundreds of facilities and services around both North and South Carolina. The organization provides an array of services ranging from character building, providing shelter for families in need of housing, praise and worship services along with seeking out safe and affordable housing for senior citizens. The organization serves as a reminder that good can be done within the community no matter how much or little you may contribute.   

 

Going Places is a unique program in the Lowcountry that strives to provide a new bike, helmet and lock for each child in all 31 Title 1 elementary schools. The organization was created when Katie Blomquist, a first-grade teacher at a low-income elementary school, took notice to a 6-year-old student in her classroom who mentioned he had never owned a bicycle. Katie then decided to create an organization that seeks to provide disadvantaged kids with the right to experience joy. Since Going Places has been established, the organization has gifted a new bike to every student at Pepperhill Elementary School and continues to expand its reach. The organization has also created the “Give a Surprise” program in which they partner with local businesses to provide every staff member in a low-income elementary school with a gift or meal.

LimRic Gives Back to Two Non-Profit Organizations in June

We’re excited to announce the June winners of our Give Back Grant – Charleston Hope and Purple Heart Homes. The Give Back Grant program, initiated in 2016, demonstrates “LimRic Pride” by donating a financial contribution to two 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations every month. In 2018, we expanded the program by adding a volunteer element in addition to monthly donations.

 

Charleston Hope is dedicated to empowering students and teachers in title 1 schools through relationships, resources and opportunities. Built on three core values – collaborate, create and connect – Charleston Hope offers classroom mentorship for all students and also development and leadership programs for young women. Volunteers can take action by serving as a mentor, adopting a classroom or becoming a monthly donor.

 

While not a traditional check recipient, our other June Give Back Grant beneficiary is Purple Heart Homes, which was founded in 2008 by two combat-wounded Veterans who were injured in Iraq. From building ramps to providing home ownership opportunities to younger Veterans, Purple Heart Homes’ mission is to provide functional and quality housing for disabled Veterans. We will be working with one of its partners to provide air conditioning equipment, installment and service to a local veteran’s home. More information about this project will be forthcoming.
